Love this place during the warm months, great yard and great drink specials! Food is not very veg friendly and the bar can get a bit crowded when it's too cold to utilize the outdoor space. Definitely one of our regular stops during a night out downtown!

My husband and I stopped in here for a drink (while I was trying to keep him busy before his surprise party). I totally could've stayed there for hours, on their back river side patio. What an amazing setting for sipping beverages and enjoying the gorgeous view of the mountains and river. The prices are also great, as we got 2 bottles of Abita for $5 total. Can't wait to go back and try the food!

It's nice to be female in Steamboat Springs. The female to male ratio is something like 1:6, so there's often a free drink right around the corner ;-). Actually, I'm a local and this bar is always packed with my friends and serves lots of micros, so I don't mind buying my own. BTW, thanks for the dark and stormy tip, I think I'll order one tonight :-). Words that Sunpie's brings to mind: Rugby, 5 Barrel, summer, locals, mardi gras, and fun.

Sunpie's feels to me like a grown-up college bar. Whether you are sitting indoors or out, the relaxed atmosphere will make you feel like staying for hours to drink and nibble with your friends. The beer selection is extensive and the food is quite good. If the weather is nice, sit outside and listen to the river.

Felt like I was in New Orleans in the middle of the winter in Colorado. Stellar food, hurricanes that will knock you off your feet, a large selection of beer and a chillaxed local crowd. If I'm ever back in the summer, I'll definitely be stopping by for a hangout sesh with a po-boy next to the river.

Hurricanes and hush puppies while sitting out back next to the Yampa River is a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon in Steamboat.

If you want to hang with the locals, this is the place to go. Also if you want a feel for New Orleans. The Hurricanes are spot on with taste and strength. We had 2 and were hammered. The Shrimp Po-Boy was very good as was the buffalo chicken sandwich. Nice patio with river view. Friday nights are packed!

This place was great! Went for evening drinks and they didn't disappoint. Great people watching and a true local bar. I wish it was warm enough for us to tube because the river flows right by the outdoor area. We didn't eat here but it was nice to have a drink, sit outside under a tree, and watch the people. I will go back!

I wish I was sitting in the sun listening to the river, drinking a hurricane and eating their pork sandwich smothered in gravy.

If you are in Steamboat visiting please make sure to avoid this watering hole. Thanks! And BTW The hurricanes are awesome, you can't come here for the first time and not have one! after 1 they are called Slurricanes for obvious reasons. Love it.

Beware the Hurricanes! Especially after you've tubed down the Yampa and stumbled up to the bar all dehydrated and thirsty. If you find yourself holding a plastic cup with a dainty pink concoction in it--complete with a maraschino cherry sinking slowly to the bottom--you might think, "How can this innocent-looking beverage possibly lay waste to my brain cells? I shall dispatch it speedily." But don't do it---sip, don't gulp. Order a shrimp po-boy (or oyster po-boy, or the pulled pork or Italian sandwiches, apparently) to line your stomach, and relax outside at one of the river-side tables. The atmosphere is casual, occasionally raucous (some people just aren't sippers), and definitely "locals' hangout"; whenever we visit our 'Boat friends in the summer, we always end up there. I can't say what it's like in the winter, but it's definitely a favorite hang-out spot in the summer.

Good place to hang out in Steamboat. Nice backyard along the Yampa river for sitting outside in summer. They have ginger beer and dark rum for a proper Dark & Stormy.

Just my kind of bar in an awesome ski town. Cheap drinks, good music, fun locals and excellent bartenders. Lindsay rocks!

We had only one beer here on a Saturday afternoon, but it was delightful! Took a little while to actually GET a drink, but they had Abita beer (yay Louisiana beer) and such a great patio set up. The atmosphere is chill and inviting and there is a good variety of good people milling around. Nice to sit outside by the river.

Loved it. Totally a local bar with a lot of character. Big back patio, though we couldn't enjoy it because we stopped by too late in the evening.

A local hole in the wall with a friendly crowd, but if you are looking for good food and good prices, definitely worth a try. I was there during the winter and the bar was a bit cramped. We ate in the attached dining area, that would not be mistaken for a classy restaurant, but after a great day of skiing, it was just the thing. I would highly recommend during the summer when the outdoor seating area is open, but even during the winter it was a good find.

Best sunny afternoon back yard drinking spot of all time. Perfect spot on the Yampa. Good food & friendly bartenders. I would give you one thousand stars if I could, Sunpies.

I lived in Steamboat for 9 years and still visit regularly. Sunpies is the first stop when I get into town. The crowd is always a ton of fun, everyone is welcoming and I can say I've never had an uneventful time there! Check out the backyard in the summer and sit in an Adirondack chair listening to the Yampa float by. I can't recommend this place enough!

In the summertime, get your swerve on riverside with potent Hurricanes. Order up baskets of fried oysters and shrimp. Pig out because you may not be able to stand after those Hurricanes decimate a pathway through your central nervous system, in this event the fry up will give you booster rockets, so you can get the heck home in one piece.

Pretty good po-boys and cubanos. Strong hurricanes out of a big plastic vat. It's OK N'awlins style food. This is a big rugby team hangout and a great place to sit by the Yampa River and have a cold one on a summer evening. During the winter it can get pretty cramped.

Another reviewer states that when they walk into Sunpie's, they feel like they are walking into a strangers living room, uninvited. I could not have a more opposite opinion of this fun little joint. I have just started frequenting Sunpie's (and Steamboat for that matter) over the past year and absolutely love the hometown kind of feel. It is nice to be in a bar which is loaded with locals, kids who work on the mountain and a super fun staff. I popped in a few times on New Years Eve and it was probably one of my most memorable in recent years. Every hour, there was a drink special representing a city in the world where it was midnight (and thus, the New Year). I happened to have been there when Berlin rolled around and they played 99 Luftballons and forever will associate that song with Sunpie's and a great New Year. Overall, it is just one of the best places to pop by, have yourself a tasty sandwich and an even tastier drink. They pour quite freely and you absolutely get your money's worth.
